Description

All 50 states mandate access to therapy for children with autism, creating an "autism care system" where healthcare professionals and behavior analysts "share the care" of the same children and families. However, this system lacks clear relationship practices, common principles of collaboration, and mutual accountability. As a result, the autism care system operates in a silo, disconnected from the broader healthcare ecosystem.  It's time to take Triple Aim at autism to improve the experience of care.
Autism is more than its diagnosis-related symptoms and behaviors. Autistic children and adults have significantly higher rates of asthma, allergies, epilepsy, gastrointestinal conditions, and mental health issues. The average medical expenditures for children with autism and co-occurring conditions are 4-6 times higher than those of comparison groups.
The nature of the relationship between behavior analysts and their clients makes them ideally suited to be well-child advocates with families. Learn how a more clinically integrated approach to the care of autistic children and their families facilitates collaborative care planning and care delivery.

You Will Learn How To:

  1. Reduce fragmentation and discoordination of care through a formal model of collaboration and accountability among all members of the child’s professional resource community.
  2. Improve the quality of health of the autistic condition-community with a broader view of the quality and outcomes expected and the value services created.
  3. Create value by reducing per-capita costs, stabilizing families and improving opportunities for education, employment and independent living.
