Participants will hear about the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s RISE TO HEALTH: A National Coalition for Equity in Health Care. RISE TO HEALTH has been undertaken in partnership with the American Medical Association and with founding collaborators Race Forward, the Groundwater Institute, the American Hospital Association, Policy Link, the National Association of Community Health Centers, Health Begins, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and a number of partners. The vision is a transformed health care ecosystem where all people—particularly those who have been historically marginalized—have the power, conditions and resources to achieve optimal health.
Four areas are catalysts to achieving long-term transformation to an equitable health care ecosystem:
- Access. Ensuring that health care services, treatments and technologies are inclusively designed for and equitably accessible to every individual and community.
- Workforce. Building and sustaining a diverse, inclusive and thriving health care workforce equipped to advance racial justice and health equity for patients, communities and staff
- Quality and Safety. Ensuring the highest quality and safest equitable care and health systems and eliminating differential harm for all individuals and communities.
- Social and Structural Drivers of Health. Challenging individuals, organizations and actors in the health care sector to leverage their strengths, resources and power to advance solutions addressing social and structural drivers of health inequities.
Reflecting the integrated ecosystem approach needed to drive this vision, members and target audiences are:
- Health care organizations.
- Individual Health care practitioners.
- Insurance companies and other payers.
- Pharmaceutical, biotechnology and research organizations.
- Professional societies.
Participants will also learn about practical tools and hear real-world efforts by coalition members to advance toward the RISE TO HEALTH vision focused on:
- Building capacity; expand knowledge and mobilize with concrete skills and tools to advance equity and racial justice in the health care ecosystem and in our communities.
- Changing and influencing policy, payment, education, standards and practices.
- Transforming and sustainably changing mindsets and the health care narrative of equity and racial justice.
