Dr. Valentine is an Applied Research Scientist in NCQA's Behavioral Health Center. He applies his expertise as a licensed clinical psychologist and trained social science researcher to developing, implementing, and maintaining behavioral health care quality measures and evaluation programs as well as curating knowledge to inform policy regarding behavioral health care access, quality, and outcomes. In his prior work, Dr. Valentine used diverse quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to characterize the psychosocial factors that drive psychological and physical morbidity in multiple clinical populations (e.g., cancer, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia), and he evaluated the impacts of medical and behavioral health interventions on psychological, functional, and quality of life outcomes in these populations. He has conducted psychometric evaluations of clinical assessment tools, including patient-reported outcome measures and cognitive tests. He also has experience in direct patient care including delivering evidence-based behavioral health interventions in integrated primary care–behavioral health, general mental health, and hospital settings. Dr. Valentine received postdoctoral research training in clinical psychology at the University of Michigan, a PhD in clinical psychology with specialization in health psychology from The Ohio State University, and a BS in human development from Cornell University.
