Description

This session delves into the challenges of collecting Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) data and provides practical solutions drawing from recent initiatives at IBX. Self-reported data often fall short of providing comprehensive coverage, requiring supplemental information from healthcare providers, census data, and other administrative sources. Discover how IBX created a Golden Rule for collecting race and ethnicity data that helps to integrate self-reported data with non-self-reported sources.

Presenters from IBX will share their approach to improving Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) data quality, which includes using medical claims to identify transgender and gender diverse members. They will also demonstrate how the use of multiple data sources can paint a more robust picture of SDOH risks faced by members. Finally, participants will get an overview of the proprietary Social Barrier Index algorithm, which identifies SDOH risks in a member's community.

You Will Learn:

  • The challenges and limitations of self-reported SDOH data
  •  How to integrate self-reported data with non-self-reported sources for race/ethnicity and understand IBX's Golden Rule approach
  • How to improve the quality of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) data in healthcare
  • The importance of utilizing multiple SDOH data sources and prioritizing those with indications of need
  • Insights into how IBX sources SDOH data through various channels such as enrollment records, medical claims, case management programs, provider-facing platforms, and external data surveys
  • The concept of the Social Barrier Index algorithm and how it identifies SDOH risks in a member's community
