Kathleen (Kathie) Thomas, DHA, MPH, serves as the National Senior Director of Program Development, Health Science, Research & Analytics at the American Heart Association. In this role, she oversees strategic research operations, directs measurement priorities, and collaborates with thought leaders to advance research innovation and real-world evidence initiatives.

Kathie has taught with A.T. Still University’s College of Graduate Health Studies for four years, where she develops and teaches courses in quality improvement, performance excellence, data analytics, and interpersonal communication. She also mentors students as a dissertation committee member and doctoral project advisor. She earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Psychology from Michigan State University, a Master of Public Health from A.T. Still University, and a Doctorate in Health Administration from A.T. Still University. Her research interests focus on patient-centered care metrics and outcomes in cardiovascular and neurological conditions. An active scholar and presenter, Kathie has spoken at conferences such as Scientific Sessions, International Stroke Conference, Quality of Care and Outcomes Research, ACHE Congress, and the Michigan Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters. Her publications appear in journals including Circulation, Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, Stroke, JAMA, Patient Experience Journal, Michigan Academician, and SAGE Research Methods Cases: Medicine and Health.

Outside of work, Kathie enjoys time with family and friends, staying active, and serving as a foster parent, bringing both joy and a bit of daily unpredictability to her home.
