Russell Dexter is a quality improvement thought leader with over 20 years of experience leading, teaching, practicing, coaching, and mentoring process improvement in healthcare - with a focus on the Lean Management discipline. Most recently, Russ has focused on quality improvement efforts to improve the value of data shared via Connecticut’s health information exchange, Connie. By leveraging his experience applying quality improvement disciplines, tools, and techniques; his knowledge of health information data transfer; and experience working with organizations to prepare for success under value-based payment models; Russ works with technical experts and health industry stakeholders to reduce care fragmentation, improve clinical outcomes, improve patient and staff experience, improve health equity, and reduce the total cost of care through data sharing. He has proven success working on large scale initiatives with multiple stakeholders and across functional areas, and his experience includes working at large, medium, and small-sized organizations.
Russ also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Connecticut State University, where he teaches Information Management for undergraduate students and Healthcare Services Management for graduate students. His education includes a master’s degree in business administration; a bachelor’s degree in finance; and specialized training in systems thinking, process mapping, root cause analysis, Lean Management, and health data analytics. He holds the international credential, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and has developed and delivered quality improvement training for medical and practice operations staff. His management experience of over twenty-five years includes nineteen years managing healthcare operations at both hospital-based and post-acute care organizations.
